What can we do to save our infrastructure? - January 2015

We hear it in the news all the time, the devastating state of our infrastructure.  It’s crumbling, the steel on our bridges is beyond repair.  Our concrete sewer lines have eroded to the point that the walls are so thin and they need to be replaced.  How many water main breaks happen in a month and how much water is just “gone”?  Our highway overpasses have cracked concrete parapet walls that look like they could fall at any time.  Even the expansion joints wind up on the highway instead of in the joint.

It’s depressing.  And we all know the D.O.T.’s do the absolute best they can with the funds they’re given.  And we all know that Congress is responsible for funding these projects but do they?  Will they?

Here in Southwest Ohio they’ve been widening I-75 and I-70 for a few years.  They’re almost finished in Dayton and are moving towards Cincinnati.  I wonder what they’ll do with the Brent-Spence bridge that crosses the Ohio River in downtown Cincinnati?

It’s in all of our best interests to build and replace (or repair) for longevity.  It’s the right thing to do.  What can we do to get decades more life out of these projects?

The State of Kentucky has started using a Belzona® waterproofing coating on their new concrete to get more life from it.  Upwards of 30 years more life when treated at recommended intervals.

The University of Dayton is presently testing four steel coating products for longevity.  I’m happy to report that Belzona® has been included in this and results are due in April.

The City of Dallas used a few million dollars’ worth of Belzona® when they built a new wastewater treatment plant.  They used the Belzona® on top of the concrete and steel to protect the substrate from the effects of erosion/corrosion and chemical attack.  The City of Columbus is leaning towards this solution for their new and expanding systems.

Belzona® makes over 100 different polymeric repair composites for a multitude of applications.

Let us show you how we can help rebuild and protect the systems you are working on.
